How to add a Nostr address to your account

About Nostr identifiers:

Nostr (NIP-05) identifiers are human-readable addresses that make it easier for users to find and interact with each other. Identifiers are linked to and used as a replacement for public keys. They look exactly like email addresses, making them more user-friendly than the underlying cryptographic keys. Ideally, each Nostr user should create an identifier using their own unique domain name. However, due to the necessary technical know-how and associated cost, many users opt for an address from a centralized provider. At BitcoinNostr.com, we encourage and help users to set up identifiers on privately owned domains through our Nostr Sovrn initiative. We do also provide free identifiers to Bitcoiners and anyone who’s interested in learning more about Bitcoin. These free identifiers are offered as part of our Bitcoin education initiatives and are also intended as a starting point on the path towards full ownership and control of your Nostr address.

General instructions:

If you requested a free Bitcoin Nostr identifier, please note note that it will only work once you’ve added it to your Nostr profile and we’ve activated it. It can take up to 12 hours for your Bitcoin Nostr identifier to be activated. That’s because we do so manually in an effort to prevent spam. We appreciate your patience in the meantime.

Please follow these instructions carefully: Go to the profile settings in your Nostr client and paste your identifier into the ‘NIP-05 Verification / Identifier’ field (and click ‘Save’). Do not change any characters and make sure that there are no extra spaces at the beginning or end of your identifier. Be sure to also read your client-specific instructions below. Once your identifier has been activated, your profile will automatically display a check mark and/or display your identifier domain (i.e. BitcoinNostr.com).

Bitcoin Nostr identifiers are and will remain completely free. The only thing we ask in return is that you please follow the Bitcoin Nostrich account so that we can share educational Bitcoin and Nostr content with you. To follow this account, copy the PubKey below, paste it into the search field of your Nostr client and click on the ‘Follow‘ button on the profile page.

Now go to your new Nostr client and log in with your private key (all of your Nostr posts, DMs and account settings are connected to your private key and will automatically re-appear in your new client). Lastly, go to your profile settings in your new Nostr client, make sure that your identifier is displayed correctly in the ‘NIP-05 Verification / Identifier’ field (without extra spaces at the beginning or end) and be sure to click on the ‘Save’ button.
